Saturday 17 March
Myrtleford Showgrounds, Victoria

What is the Touratech Travel Event?

The Touratech Travel Event is a weekend in the beautiful Victorian Alpine country providing adventure riders with information on all the latest bikes, accessories and all things adventure!  As the event name suggests, the weekend comprises of 3 key components - Travel Event, Adventure Challenge and Expo.

Whilst the travel event itself is free for spectators and visitors, there is the option to participate in the Touratech Adventure Challenge or the Sunday ride should you wish to join in the fun!

New Location & Venue For 2018!

For a number of years, we have held our annual Touratech event in Bright.  It has grown and developed each year and 2018 sees the introduction of many new aspects that we’re really excited about! Myrtleford will play host to the Touratech Travel Event in 2018.

One of the reasons we’ve moved our event from Bright to Myrtleford is to enable camping onsite for our attendees.  The new location will also allow us to introduce presentations from guest speakers and create a fantastic adventure village surrounded by beautiful shady elm trees.  With catering available Friday and Saturday nights you won't have to venture far to grab a meal and share some good times with fellow adventurers.

Staying in the glorious Alpine Shire but with the Myrtleford Recreation Reserve at our disposal gives us access to new terrain and private properties to stage our challenges.  If you attended the Touratech Adventure Challenge in 2017 or 2016 then next years event will be quite different with fresh challenges. We aim to spice it up a little for 2018 too!

Travel Event

It’s about the journey to Myrtleford, camping and spending time chatting with other adventurers about their journey, bike, accessories and experiences.  We have attendees from across the country and were lucky enough to have Touratech founder – Herbert Schwartz of Germany join us in 2017!

Adventure Expo

The expo provides the perfect opportunity to find out all about and test ride your weapon of choice in perfect adventure conditions!  Then there’s the accessories, stock up on camping gear or check out the latest gadgets.

in 2017, Ducati were booked solid for test rides from Friday midday right through until event close on Saturday afternoon.  So you need to make sure you book a test ride in advance to guarantee a spot.

Feedback from our attendees last year included that they wanted to spend more time with exhibitors so we’re commencing 2018’s activities from Friday midday to the end of Saturday.

We will be holding a range of informative presentations for attendees.  We will cover practical adventure riding related topics and hear from speakers about their rides and experience.

Test Ride Bookings

If you would like to book in a test ride please send us an email through our contact form and include which brand/model you would like to ride.

Touratech Adventure Challenge

The Adventure Challenge is completed on Saturday and sees entrants coming and going from the village throughout the day completing a range of unique skills-based challenges.  Entrants accumulate points along the way which then form part of the judging process.  The top 10 entrants then compete in the final slow speed obstacle test to determine winners of each class (single cylinder, multi cylinder, women & teams).

A dinner is held on Saturday evening to make presentations and to wrap up the day’s activities.

This is a fun event for entrants and spectators alike.

The Detail

Rider skill is is one, but you will also need to navigate, think and scheme your way through a series of challenges.   A number of checkpoints will be spread out across the region around Bright so you will travel some distance during the day. Along the way you will need to navigate your way to a number of checkpoints and complete challenges as you go to score points.

This is not a speed event but your riding skill will be put to the test with a series of slow speed technical challenges that will take supreme skill to conquer and will earn you points. Even if you're not a gun rider you will still have a barrel of laughs. Ride with mates, see some sights and test yourself along the way.

The top riders during the day will be invited to put their skills on show to a crowd of spectators and fellow competitors in the final challenge. This will be an obstacle course in a confined area that test your clutch & throttle finesse and peg weighting like nothing else. At the end of the day, only the best rider will stand on the top step and they will have earned it!

  • A goodie bag at registration
  • Event shirt
  • Stickers for your bike with name and competitor number
  • Score card and map to find your way around the course
  • Photos and video will be available to download after the event
  • Technical support, bike recovery and first aid support if you get in trouble
  • Saturday night presentation dinner at Bright Brewery
  • A day jam packed full of a whole lot of fun and adventure!
  • Entry fee is $195

Team Entries

In 2018, we are including team entries into the Challenge.
To enter as a team you need 3 people. The only condition is that you all have to ride and complete the challenges together. You can't have individual members from the team split up and do different challenges. Your team score will be added together as a total aggregate score.
Your individual scoring will still go towards the final scoring for the event so if you're in the top ten riders, you can ride in the grand final obstacle challenge to take out the top prize.
We thoroughly encourage you to have some fun with this. You may want to give your team a name, funny dress-ups, decorate your bikes, etc. ;-) There may even be prizes for this!!!
Click on either of the Touratech Adventure Challenge products below and enter the coupon code TEAM on the checkout page.  This will discount the entry fee by $20 making it $175.
When you fill in your payment details, there is a comments box.  Please make sure you add in the rider's names that you're in a team with so we know who you are.
The goal of this is to ride and participate together to have fun!

What are the challenges?

They vary from riding, mechanical, orienteering, through to quirky but all of them fun!  This is not a serious competitive event. Some of the challenges from last year include:

  • Make and fly a paper plane as far as you can
  • Write down how many metres above sea level a specific lookout is
  • Ride a few laps of an enduro special test track - not timed
  • Paddle a bike across a dam (not yours!  one already setup)
  • Take a selfie in front of a landmark to prove you were there
  • Navigate your way to check points using a topographic map
  • identify a set amount of mechanical items wrong on a bike setup

This is just a taste of the challenges you might face. We have plenty more surprises in store!

At the end of the day, the scores will be tallied and the top ten scoring riders will be invited to ride in the final obstacle course in front of a crowd back at the event hub in Pioneer Park. This course will showcase the top riders bike control finesse as they negotiate balance beams, see saw, logs, etc.

Watch this video from the 2016 event to get an idea of the sort of challenges we may have in store for you!

Are there different classes? What sort of bike can I ride?

  • The Adventure Challenge is open to riders of single or multi cylinder adventure or enduro bikes with off road capability.
  • There are three classes open to riders:
    • Multi cylinder bikes will compete in the premier Touratech multi class
    • Single cylinder machines will ride in the Safari Tanks class
    • Women get their own class too in the Maschine womens class
  • Make sure you fit fresh road legal knobby tyres to give yourself the best chance of clearing the challenges.
  • Each bike will need to be roadworthy with full road registration (recreational registration not permitted) and the rider will need to have a valid licence to ride the bike.
  • A basic scrutineering check will take place to ensure your bike is road worthy. Keep your bike quiet with the correct baffles in your exhaust if you are running an after market exhaust.

How far do I have to ride?

  • Total kilometres you will travel for the day will be around 150-200km so fuel range is not a big concern. You will need to carry tools and first aid kit with you though so you need some carrying capacity.

Can I ride with my mates?

  • You betcha! Although you will be scored as an individual there is no reason why you can't travel with your buddies during the day.

I'm not the worlds best rider so should I enter?

  • Every rider will get something out of this event. You get to choose how many challenges you tackle during the day. If you can't get to all of them that's OK but obviously your score will be less if you don't at least have a go at each challenge.

Are there any prizes?

  • The grand prize for the winner of the Touratech Mulit-cylinder class will win the major prize and the coveted Touratech Adventure Challenge trophy you'll need two hands to lift above your head (think Toby Price)
  • Other prizes will be given to riders that podium in each class - more details to come in the lead up to the challenge.

Are spectators allowed?

Absolutely!  There's heaps of things for spectators to see and do on the day and its SPECTATORS ARE FREE!  Below is a list of what we have planned so far.  It's a great excuse to packup the family and head to Bright for the weekend.

  • Aside from the Challenge there will be lots of activity going on at the event hub all throughout the day including; test rides, manufacturer displays and
  • There will be kids activities throughout the day as well including a junior version of the Touratech Adventure Challange, but on balance bikes.  Open to kids up to 5 years old, they will have their own little adventure riding competition!  With the grand final happening inbetween the finish of the challenge and the commencement of the finals.
  • We encourage you to bring your friends and family along too, even if they don't ride. They will be able to watch you ride and cheer you on as you do some mental and physical tests right there in front of them. They can also travel out around the course across the region and see some of the glorious Victorian High Country.
  • Leading motorcycle manufacturers will be attending with fleets of test bikes available to demo. Test rides available Friday and Saturday. In addition there will be gear on display from accessory manufacturers.
  • Family and friends are welcome to come along for the weekend with FREE ENTRY for spectators! Bright is a beautiful holiday destination and there will be lots of activities back at event HQ in Pioneer Park.
  • Running concurrently across the weekend is also the Touratech Travel Event.  In its forth year now the Travel Event treats riders to a number of rides, seminars and training through the weekend. The schedule has been set so riders can participate in both events and in fact both groups will get together on Saturday night for the Adventure Challenge presentation with lots of photos and video from the day to be presented.

What are the rules?

  • Although this is the first event of its type in Australia, the rules are based on a proven formula from Touratech events in other countries.
  • A full set of supplementary regulations will be available shortly.
  • Although this is a competitive event, speed is not the determining factor. Riders that speed or break road rules will have points deducted or be disqualified from the event.
  • Riders will need to display a sticker on the windscreen or the front of their bike with rider name and number on it.
  • Riders will be given a score card that must be carried with them at all times and presented at each checkpoint to have your score recorded.
  • Riders will also be provided a map to navigate to each checkpoint.
  • GPS devices are permitted but not essential. A GPS may help guide you to the checkpoints more efficiently.
  • Riders will need to carry some kit with them to fix their bikes or themselves. Maybe you will need to tap into your toolkit to fix a problem out on the trail.
